AMATEUR photographers are invited to capture the essence of some of County Durham’s most picturesque countryside.

Competitors who live within 20-miles of the Morritt Hotel, in Greta Bridge, near Barnard Castle, are eligible to enter the Spirit of Teesdale contest, which aims to celebrate the Teesdale area.

Twelve winning pictures will be used in an exhibition and made into a charity calendar.

The first prize winner will also receive an overnight stay at The Morritt, including breakfast, dinner and spa use for two people.

Second prize is a day at The Garage Spa for two people including a 55-minute treatment, and third prize is dinner for two at the hotel’s Gilroy’s Dining Room.

The competition was organised by Barbara Johnson and her husband Peter Phillips as part of anniversary celebrations to mark 20 years since they took over the hotel.

Entries can be any subject, landscape, portrait, or action, and should be submitted, via email, before Friday, September 19.

They should include the photographer’s name, email, address and contact number.

The exhibition will run from November 7 to 14 and the 2015 calendar will be sold to raise funds for St Teresa’s Hospice, in Darlington.
