A CHRISTMAS ball with a serious message has raised £1,600 to help some of the most vulnerable children in the area.
The Yarm Prep School Social Committee’s Mad Hatter’s themed ball saw 200 parents and friends attend to enjoy a three-course meal, dancing and entertainment.
The social committee organised a raffle and auction which was supported on the evening by parents raising additional funds for Barnardo’s. All the prizes were donated by local businesses and parents.
A representative from Barnardo’s, Janice Heathcote, attended the ball and spoke about the work Barnardo’s does to transform the lives children.
Headmaster Bill Sawyer said: “The Christmas ball this year was another great success and I am delighted we were able to raise a significant amount for a fantastic charity.
“The social committee did a superb job organising the event and the support from local businesses and parents was extremely generous. As a school we are committed to supporting local, national and overseas charities through a range of events.
“We believe it is vital that our pupils understand that it is important to help other, who are less fortunate than themselves, through charitable work.”
