STUDENTS have won a Longsword dancing competition for the second year in a row.
Pupils from Teesdale School, in Barnard Castle, held the interhouse competition as part of a ‘Celebration of Teesdale Talent’ event in December.
The team from Goodall House, which consisted of students from Year 7 to 9, proved their dancing skills and retained the John Browell trophy.
David Bradford, founder of Spen Valley Longsword Dance team, who judged the event, said: “I was impressed by the skill and enthusiasm of the dancers - Longsword is not an easy form of traditional dance but these young people showed a determination that was commendable.”
The Music at the Heart of Teesdale project has been teaching Longsword dance in the school for the past four years and decided to run the competition to get more young people involved.
The winning team was presented with the trophy and individual engraved medals at a special assembly earlier this month.
