A FUNDRAISING night in aid of a blood cancer charity has raised more than £4,000.

The dinner dance at Solberge Hall, near Northallerton, raised £4,644 with donations still to come in for Bloodwise, a charity for leukaemia and lymphoma research for the 137 different types of blood cancers.

Around 140 people attended the event organised by Fiona Curry in honour of the tenth anniversary of the death of her father Geoffrey Curry, who suffered from chronic myeloid leukaemia.

The dress code was a touch of red and Ms Curry, owner of Hairport in Thirsk, said: “I normally do a triathlon to raise cash in memory of dad, but as it is his tenth anniversary this year we wanted to do something a bit different.

The late Geoffrey Curry

“We had a ceilidh, raffle, auction and lottery, and had lots of prises donated by local businesses, including a Lewis and Cooper hamper, £20 voucher for Barker’s and a car valet.

"I am so grateful to everyone who helped make this possible - those that donated for the auction and raffle, those that contributed to the planning and those that bought tickets. The success of this event would not have been possible without any of this.”
