A FORMER beauty queen who starred in a prime time TV programme to raise awareness of her obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is returning to our screens this week.

Kelly Waite, of County Durham, was such a hit when she featured in Channel 4's Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners last year that she was asked to take part in the show again.

This time the Miss United Kingdom Tourism 2011 winner was challenged to help the owners of Forcett Hall, near Richmond, North Yorkshire, transform their property to a standard suitable for future bed and breakfast guests.

"It was a nightmare," said Miss Waite. "They had shoved all their junk in the games room downstairs, the bathroom had barnacles growing in it and there was ivy growing through the window.

"There was dust from around 50 years and so much needed to be done. It just felt like it was never ending. They were really pleased with the end result."

The 35-year-old was supposed to stay over at the Georgian manor but said she just "couldn't do it".

"I had to go and stay in a hotel but then I did stay on the last night," she added. "It was really hard, and although the first show was hard it was on a bigger scale."

And it was no easy decision for Miss Waite to take part, as she claimed she suffered a "backlash of abuse" when she first appeared in the reality show which aired in October.

"A month later I got a call from Channel 4 saying they wanted me for this show," she said. "At first I said I didn't know and needed time to think about it.

"I had a really hard time even though I was promoting OCD, which is a good thing, and wanted to show people it wasn't just about cleaning.

"But then the next day I just thought 'what am I doing? Why should I think about turning down an opportunity?'."

Miss Waite, who was named Miss Durham Galaxy in 2010, filmed the episode at the end of March.

An ambassador for The Dream Foundation Uganda, she also featured in a German reality television programme earlier this year.

Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners featuring Miss Waite will be broadcast on Channel 4 on Tuesday (May 24) at 8pm.
