Preparations are well underway for one of the Yorkshire Dales' best known concerts, as the Barn That Rocks gets ready for its 12th charity event.

Having already raised £125,985 for health charities, organisers Peter Fall and wife Barbara are renowned for their dedication and determination.

Tickets go on sale on March 12, through their farm, Grazing Nook, Patrick Brompton, near Bedale, at the Food Weighhouse in Bedale and Gilsan Sports in Leyburn. Last year they sold out in days and Peter is determined that it is first come, first served.

The latest concert comes at a difficult time for Peter who has been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, but he is determined the show will go on.

He added: “The support has just been phenomenal, I really can’t put into words how wonderful people have been, from the hospital and GP staff to the many, many well wishers who have sent their messages. It has been lovely that people have had the time and made the effort to get in touch, and it has been that that has kept me going and determined to make sure we have the biggest and best Barn That Rocks yet.”

Doctors say Peter is responding well but is still facing extensive treatment.

The line-up for The Barn That Rocks 2024 includes four major bands: the Rockin' Replicants, the Baa-rilliant Electric Sheep, the Awesome STAX and the Fantastic Bang Bang Bang.

It takes place on Saturday, June 1 with more than six hours of live music, but ticket numbers are restricted to 800 because of licensing regulations.

Peter and Barbara are devoted music fans, their last concert was seeing Jethro Tull at York Minster over New Year. It was the 31st time they had seen the group, but Peter never stays away overnight from his beloved farm, where he has lived and worked all his life.

They started the Barn That Rocks after meeting friends at funerals, complaining it was the only time they got together during sad events and so decided to organise the concert so they could all enjoy a fun night.

From there it has grown into a major event in the Dales music calendar, with all the money raised going to the Friends of the Friarage and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. This year’s event is in aid of the YAA. For information: https://www.facebook.com/TheBarnThatRocks.
