GUISBOROUGH Town continued their high-scoring vein of form last Saturday, scoring five goals for the second time in four days at the KGV Stadium in their Northern League division one match against Bedlington Terriers.

A healthy crowd of 419 was present to watch an exciting end-to-end match, with Guisborough’s strikers in full flow once again.

The home side went ahead in the third minute when Curtis Round was allowed a free run towards goal and, when nobody decided to close him down quickly, he fired his shot straight into the top corner from 30 yards out, giving the keeper no chance.

Ryan Drane could have brought the Terriers level two minutes later when Marc Walton picked out the youngster, but his effort went inches wide of the post. But Bedlington did equalise in the 17th minute when Drane found Walton on the edge of the area and he shifted the ball right before firing into the bottom corner.

Jordan Towers’ powerful shot was tipped on to the crossbar by Terriers keeper Peter Denton, but 10 minutes later Round easily got past his man and found Danny Earl, who made no mistake with the finish.

In another attack, Earl managed to go round the keeper with ease, but sent his shot wide. However, he redeemed himself on the stroke of half-time when he set up Town’s third goal. The striker's shot was parried by Denton, but Steven Snaith picked up the ball to bury it into the back of the net.

Earl got his second goal of the game on 67 minutes when Town caught their opponents pressing for a goal. Round pulled the ball back across the box and Earl fought off his man to fire past Denton.

Smith almost made it five less than a minute later when Earl dispossessed Marc Dummett inside his own half, but the forward scuffed his shot and the keeper saved easily.

Things got even worse for the visitors when Guisborough opened them up again with another break, with Connor Smith adding a fifth in the 85th minute with a neat finish. The substitute hit his shot first time, looping the ball over the keeper and a defender on the line moments after Dummett had produced a goal-saving challenge.

Bedlington then produced a moment of magic when Ferrell received the ball back from Walton outside the home side’s box and tried to place his shot across the keeper, but the effort went inches wide.

Walton converted a penalty a minute into injury time after Tony Stephenson drew a foul in the penalty area, but it was too little too late for the visitors.

Town manager Chris Hardy said: “Today’s result and performance were excellent and from the off we showed a good tempo and purpose about our play. The goals were excellent, individually and collectively. Our second goal was the pick of the bunch, a free-flowing team goal which typified the creative, fluent play we brought to this afternoon’s fixture."

Guisborough have now scored 18 goals in their last three matches and have moved up to fourth in the league.
