WITH many cancellations of trials last weekend, the Yeadon-Guiseley club's tenth club championship trial at Dob Park on Sunday became the focus of trialling in Yorkshire, with competitors travelling from Lancashire, County Durham, Derbyshire, East Yorkshire and Humberside.

A total of 107 riders converged on the venue and 86 contested the main three-lap, 12-section course in Browns Wood, where the temperature hovered on -1.

Leyburn joiner Richard Sadler was on course to ride the entire trial without penalty, but that dream died when he stopped in the penultimate section on the first lap. Fellow Beta UK teamster Ben Hemingway was close, but he failed the climb at section six on lap one.

Sunderland's John Crinson hurled his MRS Sherco through all the sections and the ploy earned him third place on a tie-breaker with Hemingway. Crinson did not stop in any section, but did add single marks to his score.

While son Richard dominated the expert class, Paul Sadler shaded a strong quartet of Anthony Brown, Robin Luscombe, Richard Taylor and Karl Greaves.

Luscombe was the only competitor riding a 50-year-old Triumph Cub machine.

THE first Julian Ford Memorial Trial was staged at the Bumpy estate at Howden Clough, where 56 competitors rode a three-lap, 12-section woodland course at the road and trial training charity-funded organisation where Julian was a key official. He was also Yorkshire Centre ACU president in 2011-12.

Carolyne Kenzitt, chief director of Bumpy Ltd, took on the role of event secretary while Bumpy instructor Dan Thorpe planned the course.

Scorton's Chris Laws won the 50-50 route from Tom Green and Dave Thorpe, who will be 70 in two weeks' time and was well at home on the soft ground. Laws did quite well as he was shepherding his children, Imogen and Elliott, through the sections.

The results team worked at express speed to stage an awards presentation and round off the day with a fireworks display.

THERE was a good turnout for the Consett and District Motor Club trial at Butsfield Quarry on Sunday.

The venue, despite having been used almost 20 times this year, always pulls in the big entries.

Colin Ward took the expert win on six, having got the better of Phil Wiffen by having most cleans, with third place going to Stephen Bennett. Vince Macintosh and Phil Perry took their respective wins in the green and clubman classes, and Mark Jewell was another to take a tie-break win ahead of Andrew Black after they had both dropped two on the sportsman route.

MACMILLAN Cancer Support was the beneficiary of the this year's Weardale Charity Trial, when 28 riders descended on Rogerly Quarry, near Stanhope.

Jack Biggins, on 18, took another win on the expert route, the class B youth rider just getting the better of Dale Whittaker and Travis Ward, while Jason Scott topped the green route on 17.

Thomas Needham was another class B rider to take a win, this time on the clubman route, his total of 10 giving him a comfortable margin over second-placed Matty Napper.

Carl Peart took the sportsman route win, his 17 marks comparing favourably with Simon Higginbotham, who led Amy Turpin into second place.

RICHMOND hit the winter weather barrier last Sunday when Paul Terry deemed conditions were a little too severe to stage the Eric Ridley Memorial Trial at Marske.

As clerk of course for the trial, his obligations are many and safety is a major consideration. The club issued a cancellation notice in ample time to prevent anyone arriving at the Tounge Hill venue on Sunday morning.
