JST Gas Gas riders Dan and Jack Peace dominated Guisborough and District Motor Club's Allan Fothergill Trophy Trial at Aislaby Quarry, near Whitby, last Sunday, while Chris Barnfather made a welcome return after injury to grab the intermediate award.

It was a dry day, but slippery conditions underfoot made grip difficult for the 93 entrants.

On the first section, clubmen plunged down a rutted hill towards a rock that instantly stopped the front wheel. Only four riders cleaned in the B class – Dave Wardell, John Stones, Will Gamble and Dave Clarke.

Dan Peace cleaned the hard route first lap to lose just two marks in total there. Tom Alderson, Tom Affleck and Barnfather also cleaned the first lap.

Affleck, riding as well as he has done for some time, put in the best performance on the greasy twists of the second. Peace responded with an unpenalised ride on the huge step of three.

The downhill drop over the rocks of Keith Ellis' section caused a few heart flutters. Shane Monkman, Mike Noble and Chris Brown picked up maximums, Barnfather putting the best ride in on the second lap on two.

Clubman A proved tight, five marks covering the first five places, the returning Dave Archer snatching the win. Williams was by far the best on section one and the only rider unpenalised on three, but his scrappy ride on the climb of Dave Lee's section meant he was runner-up.

Keel looked steady all day, but a three, two, one score on the fourth dropped him to third.

THE big guns in Yorkshire trialling arrived at Addingham Moorside on Sunday morning as the Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club successfully staged the first event in their championship series after cancelling the trial a week previously due to an inaccessible parking area.

A field of 117 competitors sprang into action and event secretary Kim Whitham segregated 23 youngsters who rode a separate small wheels course.

Outgoing Yorkshire adult trials champion Sam Yeadon won the hard route class from Guiseley's Joe Jennings, who matched Yeadon through all 10 sections, but lost out on a tie-breaker.

Chester international Brad Bullock took third place ahead of Telford's Tom Minta. Skelding teenager Sam Johnson claimed the novice class.

IAN Hutchinson, 11-times TT winner, received a warm welcome at the Comrades Club in Richmond last Saturday evening.

He was welcomed at the door by Richmond Motor Club chairman Nathan Stones and Superbike national commentator and Darlington and Stockton Times columnist Larry Carter.

The venue was packed to maximum capacity and guests included four Scott Trial winners in Bill Wilkinson, Phil Alderson, Jonathan Richardson and his father Gerald, as well as sidecar aces Barry Watson and Ronny Suttill, plus Richard Sadler, Mick Wilkinson and Ray Sayer.

Mr Stones formally announced the programme for the evening before handing over to compere Mr Carter to take over on the microphone. After a short interval for a pie and peas supper, Mr Carter conducted a question and answer session with Mr Hutchinson.

The evening ended after 11pm with an autograph signing session.

What started as a discussion last August turned out to be a 100 per cent success story for Richmond Motor Club and its members. It was their first-ever speakers night, but will certainly not be the last.

The club thanked Barry Walton, of Colin Appleyard Motorcycles, and the Comrades Club refurbishing and decorating team for their hard work.

RICHMOND Motor Club will hopefully run the Eric Ridley Trial on Sunday at Tonge Hill, Hurst. The trial was cancelled on November 22 due to weather and land conditions. The start time will be 10.30am.
