BRILLIANT sunshine at the Richmond Motor Club's new trials venue at Kirby Hill was enjoyed by 84 competitors last Sunday.

Jacky Lynas came up with his land for the easy and beginners' event and planted the route and section flags on Saturday with clerk of course Nick Hunt and Andrew Brown.

Ken Wallis was given the shaded section 10, where the marks mounted in all classes, while Paul Astwood controlled nine small-wheelers.

Coverdale rider Sam Lambert, 17, competed in his first trial on a Beta. He did not stop in any section and was ninth in the clubman class, in which Tunstall teenager Beth Watling shaded all but Les Richardson. Both rode the entire course without incurring a penalty.

STANLEY Trials Club were at the garden centre in Edmondsley, near Chester-le-Street, on bank holiday Monday, when almost 40 riders were given the choice of four routes on the compact wooded course.

Stephen Bennet headed the expert class with just one mark lost, in section six.

On the green course, Gary Broomfield beat his only competition, Michael Spence, by four, with sections four, seven and eight taking most of their marks.

Eric McMeekin took his BSA round the clubman course without loss, which was just as well as both Daniel King and Colin Ward finished their rides on one mark apiece and John King wasn't too far behind with just three marks dropped all day.

WEARDALE and District Motor Club were out at Lower Harthorpe last Sunday, when 55 riders were blessed with glorious weather, which had many panting for breath by the time they completed their three laps of 12 sections.

John Crinson and Michael Phillipson had a rare duel for the win and it was a close match after early leader Phillipson went over the bars after cresting the rock in section eight.

Alistair Dalton was another showing excellent form with a fine win on the green course, and was the only rider to match Crinson's clean ride in section eight, where the green route was the same as the experts.

Youth B rider William Dalton was another to impress with third place on 16.

Martin Phillipson must have thought he'd thrown his chances of the clubman win when he fived section eight on his second lap.

THE third Crooks Trophy Trial was run by Wetherby and District Motor Club last Saturday at a spectacular new venue at the very head of Nidderdale, where Longside Farm, near Lofthouse, tested 62 riders.

After many hours pruning and cutting back bushes and branches, Richard Shepherd, Joel Sadler and Dave Mawer produced a cracking 10-section, four-lap course. The penalties in each of the three classes indicated that the trio had done their work exactly as planned.

The action started at the end of the east field, where a narrow beck appeared harder than it was. Norman Shepherd buzzed his Bantam up at high speed.

The second and third were hill climbs across the steep hillside, while four to nine climbed the splendid ravine with a waterfall at the top. Joel Sadler stopped twice in the fourth, then dabbed five and eight, while Rob Hardisty, who won the 50/50 on his new 250 Sherco, dropped all but one in these sections.

Shepherd lost seven in the seventh, while Michael Benson lost the class with four marks gone in the final section.
